Buddhism In Nepal, one of the Major religion of Nepal. How many percent of people are following Buddhism in Nepal? nobody knows exactly because finding fact about religion system in Nepal is not systematic way, just collecting data through mouth answer. we are believe at least fifty percent of Nepalese they are following Buddhism. Hinduism absorbed over Buddhism since long time in Nepal. but present day many pilgrimage site are sharing both religion. in this blog we will talk about buddhism, how it became religion, when and where.
The story begin 547 life circle before buddha was born, one day The meditated person Named Sumedh meet with Greatest Enlightenment (Buddha) Person Dipangal. When Sumedh saw Dipangal he asked about enlightenment, Dipangal said to Sumedh you can not be an enlightenment in once your life, you must do meditation, kindness, help to people and animal, then after you will be a Buddha. so from that day Sumedh started became Bodhisatwa (person who work as a welfare to every living things), after Pass all the Life circle of Bodhisatwa, 623Year B.C. one Prince born in Lumbini (now in Nepal) as a Bodhisatwa, in the Family of Sakya Nation. When Bodhisatwa was born, he looks different than other human being like a Long Face, Long ear, different Hair and Very Calm then some astrologist said this bodhisatwa will become an enlightenment.
Physically Bodhisatwa started growing up like a normal kid but his behavior was totally different, Calm, Thinking deeply, peace lover like that. age of 29 years old, Bodhisatwa left all family, happiness and enjoyment for finding an answer of life. After six year of Hard Meditation he became an Enlightenment (Buddha), later one all Knowledge and philosophy of Buddha spread all over the world and became a Buddhism religion. nowadays millions of follower (devotees) are living in the world.
Basically there are three way to following the Buddhism.
1. Theravada : This kinds of follower are personal way to reach to Nirvana or become an enlightenment, left all the modern society and living and became a monk.
2. Mahayana : Being kindness and welfare to all living things to earn (punya) holy vibes and finally become an enlightenment is called Mahayana method in Buddhism. also called Long way to reach Nirvana.
3. Bajrayana : Reach the Nirvana by Mixing with Tantra, Mantra and Tradition called Bajrayana. also called short form to become an Enlightenment.
Buddhist Lama Tradition of Nepal.
Buddhist and Lama, when we are talking about Buddhism Lama also come together. Lamas are respected and knowledgeable position or tradition in Buddhism. 7-8 century when Guru Rimpochhe Went to Tibet, Lama tradition also start on that time. in the Tibetan Buddhism Lama never die, they are reincarnate again and again, after reincarnate they will get same position and same respect like a previous life. Later on Lamas also divided in many rules, forms and many branches. mainly until now there are four kinds of Lama tradition, Every lama tradition have a one supreme Lama, which is we called Rinpoche or Tulkus. well main purpose of all lama are following a Buddhism but different way and tradition.These are the four Lama Tradition.
1. Nyingmapa Lama: Nyingmapa is first and old lama tradition in Buddhism, established by Guru Rinpoche(known as a second Buddha). main point of this lama is practice with view and Meditation and finally become a Nirvana. many supreme Lama became a head of this tradition like Guru Rinpoche, Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, kyabje dilgo khentse Rinpoche, Kyabje penor rinpoche, kyabje Mindiling Trichen Rinpoche, Kyabje Thulsik Rinpoche, Kyabje Kathog Getse Rinpoche and Last one is Ngawang Jigme (reincarnation of Kyabje Thulsik Rinpoche). Tibet and Nepal are main base of of Nyingmapa Lama tradition.
2. Kagyupa Lama: Kagyupa lama tradition was start after Nyingmapa lama by Marpa Lochawa (the great translater). This Lama is base on Bajrayana Practice with all the mantra, tantra and yantra. the greatest Tantrik Yogi Milarepa also belongs of this tradition. practice, teaching and meditation are main work n the Kagyupa. until now kagyupa has 17 head lama and the last is Gyalwang karmapa regpi Dorje, Trinley Thaye Dorje and Ogyen Trinley Dorje.
3. Shakyapa lama: The Lama is from White land and also practice with Authentic Bajrayana. Main view of Shakyapa is developmental practice with a discipline and deities. until now shakyapa also have many great lamas and last one is Shakya Trizin Rinpoche and his son Pawan Shakya.
4. Gelupa Lama: Gelupa lama is start by Zongpa Lama in 14th century. main practice of this tradition is study with philosophy and logic with practice of self Development. Gelupa have also many supreme Lamas but famous with 14th Dalai Lama.
every lama tradition are good, and there are nothing conflict with each other.
